US Southwest Tour

I took these photos on a trip to the US southwest with my wife. The trip included various points of interest in Arizona and New Mexico.

Sedona, Arizona

This was a day-trip while my wife was in a conference. I drove up from Tempe, AZ, and spent the day hiking around Sedona. These pictures include Bell Rock and its environs, and several spots in Red Rock Crossing. I also found the "White Tree of Gondor."

Taliesin West, Scottsdale, Arizona

The site of Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and studio, Taliesin West offers tours of the campus (still an operating architecture school), including Wright's private quarters. The crenelations and incidental woodwork that he designed produces really interesting shadows, and I loved playing with positive/negative space in the pictures.

Saguaro National Forest, Arizona

After my wife's conference, we drove from Tempe to Las Cruces, New Mexico to visit her mother. On the way, we stopped in the Saguaro National Forest for some amazing views. When walking through the forests of cacti, you cannot help anthropomorphizing the large saguaro.

Aguirre Springs, New Mexico

In New Mexico, we took a day trip to Aguirre Springs, where I took some neat macro shots.

White Sands, New Mexico

If you've never been to White Sands, it's something you need to do. The sand is weathered gypsum crystals, which is why it is so stark white. We stayed until just into sunset, to get some good shots.
